The 2nd Mining and Technology Expo – MINTEX 2023 has been running from Nov 24 – 28 at the Millennium Hall in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Expo gathered various mining companies, explorers, business peoples, academicians, students and many other national and international visitors.
Mining and exploration giants such as MIDROC Gold Mine, Tulu Kapi Gold Mine, Kumruk Gold Mine which is a subsidiary of Allied Gold, YMG Gold, Akobo Minerals which is a subsidiary of ETNO Mining, and others has been demonstrating there status of operation in the different part of Ethiopia. Regional mineral resources development bureaus’ have been also showcasing different kinds of minerals and potentials for the future in their respective locations. Small scale gemstone miners, exporters, lapidary and business owners demonstrating wonderful scene of various minerals.
Parallel presentation and discussion sessions on different topics has been running with participants from national and international companies including renowned university professor moderating the discussion sessions. Mr. Ibrahim Shadded who is the Director General of African Minerals and Geoscience Center (AMIGC) has presented on “WOMEN-YOUTH EMPOWERMENT IN APPLICATION OF SOME DEVELOPMENT MINERALS WITH EMPHASIS ON CERAMIC & SEMIPRECIOUS GEMSTONES FOR CREATION OF COTTAGE
INDUSTRY” from his experience at one the AMGC laboratory.
In general, the EXPO were a wonderful opportunity for many peoples to meet and greet, create new networks, learn about the latest developments in the mining sector of Ethiopia. The presentation and discussion was really helpful to get an insight into the topics of presentation live from the stage where participants had a chance to entertain different questions.
In future, we suggest some improvements and new program additions like parallel scientific conference.

I wish this expo also to include bussiness agreement on mining and exploration like the one in South Africa Mining Indaba by inviting retuable exploration and mining companies from the globe.
Despite it’s only the 2nd year, we hope we will have such interesting event during the future EXPOs.
